FEROCITY

A layered acrylic relief reversing predator and prey.

Know More

This sculptural painting reimagines the power dynamic of predator and prey through a mythic confrontation. Built from meticulously cut layers of paper, painted in acrylic and assembled with foam spacers. Ferocity evokes both tension and theatrical depth—each slice and shadow contributing to a suspended moment between hunter and hunted.

Before touching a brush, I pre-visualized the entire piece in Photoshop—mocking up each layer individually as if it already existed in space. This digital sketching process allowed me to choreograph depth, composition, and tension from the start. Every leaf, curve, and claw was planned like a theater set—designed to step forward or fade back depending on its role in the scene.

To bring the design to life, I exported each digital layer to vector and used a laser cutter to carve the shapes from thick paper stock. This approach lets me combine precise digital workflows with the tactile, expressive mark-making of traditional acrylic painting.

The contrast between sharp, machine-cut edges and soft, gestural brushstrokes mirrors the tension of the piece itself.
